Have you ever wondered, “How do I start with my personal development?” There are so many options out there! From books to podcasts, online classes, and talks… It can feel too much too soon if you are a beginner in the space.
I’ve been there before and know well how this feels! So today, I am here to make things easier for you!
In this post, we are going to talk about simple personal development activities to jump-start your journey and boost your personal development skills.

Activities to develop personal social and emotional development
#1 Read your little heart out
Let me sound corny and say: reading can be a magical thing!
Beyond benefits to your physical and mental health, reading unlocks a new world of possibilities, inspiration, and motivation.
Especially when talking about personal development!
Something as simple as finding a book that might inspire you and making daily reading part of your schedule can go a long way when just starting out.
Even five minutes, or five pages a day, as you are sipping your morning coffee will do.
One of my favorite things is spending my mornings cozy with a cup of coffee and wearing a luxurious robe while reading a book.
I’ve been in love with my EcoSatin Robe from Fabletics (they go up to size 4X; we love an inclusive brand!) because it’s so soft, light, and perfect for mornings.

Examples of personal development activities
If you cringe on going to the “personal development” section of the bookstore, know that you can also benefit from reading a biography and even some fictional books.
The Alchemist is my favorite book and my top recommendation for inspirational fictional books.
Exposing yourself to new ideas will open your eyes to big and small changes you can work on yourself, from your lifestyle to relationships and life in general.

#2 Table for one, please!
What do you think when you think of being alone?
For a long time, the first thing I would think of was Céline Dion singing:
“AAAAAAAAALLLLL BY MYSEEEEELF, DON’T WANNA BE. AAAAAALLLL BY MYSELF ANYMOOOORE” from the top of her lungs.
No, thank you!
But, as I got deeper into my personal development journey, I started to understand that being alone can be powerful.
It’s called solitude.
Now, solitude and loneliness are two different things.
On the one hand, loneliness offers a negative connotation and is something most of us are afraid of.
But solitude is the choice of spending quality time with yourself.
You can use this time to relax, reflect, work on a passion project, dress up and take yourself on a date… whatever makes you happy!
This is essential to personal development because it allows you to get to know yourself!
You learn more about yourself, your hopes, dreams, preferences, and more through self-discovery.
Fostering a healthy relationship of trust and self-love.
It will also give you the space to think through everything you are learning and the changes you are going through.

#3 Better together
Balance is a crucial element in long-lasting lifestyle changes.
Although I highly encourage spending time alone, I can’t stress enough the importance of nourishing your relationships with those you love.
Even if you are an introvert, I bet a few people in your life make you feel at home.
Some studies show that deep and rooted friendships can bring more enjoyment and satisfaction to our lives. They can boost our levels of satisfaction and self-esteem while lowering our levels of depression.
Wow! Talk about personal development goals!
So today, I want you to ask yourself:
“How can I be more intentional in nourishing these relationships?”
A fun way to do that is to start a project, routine, or hobby with one of your favorite people.
Here are some ideas to get you inspired:
Grab your favorite person and…
- Go for daily morning walks around the neighborhood – matching outfits encouraged!
- Have weekly coffee dates
- Have a monthly game night
- Start a book club
- Sign up for a class on something you both want to learn
The possibilities are truly endless, so pick something that will be fun for both of you!
Now, I would love to know: how are you on your personal development journey? Do you consider yourself a beginner or a pro? Let me know in the comments; I always love to chat with you!
That’s all for today! I hope you have a beautiful day, and I wish you all the love, my dear!
