How to Do a Fall Life Reset: A 7-Day Challenge to Get Cozy & Organized

A checklist graphic detailing a 7-day fall life reset challenge to help you get cozy, organized, and clear your clutter for autumn.

There is a distinct moment every year when the air suddenly feels a little crisper, the leaves start to turn, and you feel an undeniable urge to buy a new notebook and drink something warm with cinnamon in it while blasting pop-folk songs around the house…

I like to call this the “Second New Year.” AKA Fall!

January might get all the credit for fresh starts, but, in my humble opinion, September actually holds the most transformative energy. We are trading the chaotic, fast-paced energy of summer for the cozy (my fav!), grounding routine of autumn. It is the season of nesting, getting organized, and preparing for the final stretch of the year (hello, Q4!).

If you are feeling a little scattered after summer and are desperately craving routine and coziness, this challenge is for you. We are going to take the overwhelm out of the seasonal transition by breaking it down into one simple focus area per day, over the course of a week.

Grab a warm drink, and let’s dive into your 7-Day Fall Life Reset!

How This Fall Reset Challenge Works

Before we jump into Day 1, please know that the entire goal of this reset is to reduce your overwhelm, not add to it!  So, to get the pressure off and help you get the most out of this challenge, here are some ground rules:

  • Start on ANY day: You do not have to wait for a Monday to begin. Start on a Thursday, a Tuesday, or whenever you feel the urge to get organized. The days are designed to flow perfectly into each other, no matter when you kick things off.

  • Take it at your own pace: If you have a busy week, you don’t have to do these 7 days consecutively. You can do Day 1 on a Wednesday and save Day 2 for the weekend. Make the schedule work for your life, whatever that looks like now (I’m currently writing this with a 3-month-old at home, trust me… I get it!).

  • Keep it low-pressure: This is not supposed to be a bootcamp, but a cozy transition. If a task feels too heavy, skip it or modify it. The goal is to feel lighter and more grounded by the end of the week.

Day 1: The Digital Autumn (Clear the Clutter)

Before we touch your physical space, we need to clear your mental space—and with the amount of time most of us spend on our phones…  That starts with our screens! We are officially saying bye-bye to the summer chaos and curating a cozy digital environment.

Your Action Plan:

  • Offload the Summer: Go through your camera roll and transfer your summer vacation photos to a hard drive or cloud storage. Also a great moment to delete all those random screenshots you no longer need!
  • Aesthetic Update: Change your phone and laptop wallpapers to something that inspires you for the season (think: moody autumn leaves, cozy coffee shop vibes, or a dark academia aesthetic).
  • Curate the Vibe: Create a “Fall 2026” playlist on Spotify. Fill it with acoustic guitars, jazz, and whatever gives you that main-character autumn energy (mine will definitely have tons of Noah Kahan and Zach Bryan).

Day 2: The Wardrobe Transition (Cozy Closet)

It’s time to say a (temporary) farewell to the sundresses and linen shorts. Hello, favorite sweaters! Transitioning your wardrobe physically will help shift your mindset into the new season.

Your Action Plan:

  • Pack Away Summer: Wash and properly store your purely summer clothes.
  • Bring Out the Knits: Pull out your sweaters, boots, scarves, and heavy denim. Assess what you have and make a small list of any staple items you might need to buy (like a new pair of tights or a staple cardigan).
  • The Golden Rule: As you handle each piece, if you didn’t wear it at all this past summer, put it in a donation bag. Do not let it take up space in your fresh new season! Out with the old, in with the new!

Day 3: The “Nesting” Space Reset (Home Environment)

As the weather cools down, we naturally spend more time indoors. So today is all about turning your home into a warm, inviting sanctuary so you actually want to be there!

Your Action Plan:

  • The Deep Clean: Do a solid sweep, vacuum, and wipe-down of your main living areas (this might be the perfect moment to press play on that Fall playlist to help keep the morale high!). Open the windows to let the crisp air cycle through and push out any stagnant energy.
  • Sensory Swaps: Pack away the light, summery throw blankets and bring out the heavy knits and velvets.
  • Shift the Scent: Put away the citrus and coconut candles. Bring out the amber, vanilla, clove, and cinnamon (this is one of my favorite Candles for Fall, btw!). Scent is the fastest way to trick your brain into feeling cozy!

Day 4: Seasonal Nourishment (Body & Health)

Our bodies crave different things when the seasons change (isn’t that amazing?). So it’s time for us to start to shift from cooling foods (like salads and iced lattes) to warming, rich foods.

Your Action Plan:

  • Pantry Audit: Toss any expired items. Stock up on fall staples like cinnamon, nutmeg, oats, root vegetables, and your favorite hot teas.
  • Meal Prep Inspiration: Find 2 or 3 cozy, immune-boosting recipes on Pinterest to try this week. Think butternut squash soup, roasted veggies, or a hearty chili.
  • Hydration: If you struggle to drink cold water in the fall, switch to warm water with lemon or herbal teas to keep your body hydrated. Also, nothing wrong with a delicious and indulgent Apple Cider! My favorite ones have a generous (lol) amount of maple syrup involved.

Day 5: The Q4 Vision (Life & Goals)

We are entering the final quarter of the year. This is not the time to panic about what you haven’t done; it is the time to get intentional about how you want to finish and, most importantly,  how to finish strong!

Your Action Plan:

  • The Reality Check: Look back at the goals or resolutions you set in January. Which ones still matter to you and make sense for your current reality? Which ones do you need to let go of?
  • The Top 3: Write down exactly three main focus areas you want to prioritize before the year ends. Keep it realistic!
  • Schedule It: Block out time in your calendar for these three priorities so they don’t get lost in the upcoming holiday shuffle. Even 5 minutes a day counts.

Day 6: The Mindset Shift (Letting Go)

Fall is nature’s beautiful way of showing us how necessary it is to let things go so we can make space for new growth. Trees drop their leaves to conserve energy for the winter, so why not do the same with our mental baggage?

Your Action Plan:

  • Journaling Session: Grab your favorite notebook and write out what feels heavy right now.
  • Identify the Dead Leaves: What bad habits, toxic thoughts, or unhelpful relationships are draining your energy?
  • The Release: Write down one clear boundary you are going to set this season to protect your peace. Let go of the need to be perfectly productive every single day.

Day 7: The Cozy Celebration (Rest & Romanticize)

You did it! You have successfully cleared the clutter, set your goals, and prepared your environment, yay you!! Today requires zero productivity. Today is purely about soaking in the aesthetic joy of the season.

Your Action Plan:

  • Bake Something: Make pumpkin bread, cinnamon rolls, or an apple crisp. Let the smell fill your house.
  • The Slow Pause: Read a book under your newly swapped warm blankets, or put on your favorite cozy movie (may I suggest “Sweet Home Alabama”?).
  • Get Outside: Go for a slow walk with a warm drink in hand just to look at the changing leaves and breathe in the crisp air. You have earned this rest!

Welcome to Your Cozy Era!

A warm and inviting autumn graphic for a fall life reset routine, focusing on slow living and romanticizing the transition into the cozy season.

Taking just one week to intentionally transition into autumn changes everything. Instead of letting the end of the year sneak up on you with stress and overwhelm, you are stepping into Q4 grounded, prepared, and surrounded by things that bring you comfort and joy!

Save this challenge for later!
