Creating your basic daily self care checklist

If you have searched for hours on Pinterest for the “best self-care daily routine” in hopes of finding a holy grail that will solve all your problems, let me tell you something… there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all perfect self-care daily routine.

That’s because self-care looks different for everyone! And that’s completely normal and super emotionally healthy!

For some people, daily self-care may involve a consistent skincare routine and a cup of warm tea before bed. For others, clean dishes and a home-cooked dinner are some of the best forms of self-care they can choose

So, while on this journey, I want you to keep this in mind: there is no right or wrong in self-care. You are a unique human being; with that, you carry individual needs and approaches to life.

And you know the best part? This perspective makes figuring out your basic daily self-care checklist a fun self-discovery process!

What are the best self care routines?

Okay, so if self-care is so personalized, how are we going to find the perfect match for you through a blog post?

Well, well, well… this is where a few concepts, already very well known for the OGs over here at the blog, will come in handy.

I am talking about a combination of body, soul, spirit, and the five love languages.

But no worries if you are new here or need a quick refresh! I got you, dear!

When talking about body, soul, and spirit, we are talking about…

The approach to self care through a body, soul, and spirit lens consists in understanding that we as humans are integrated beings. So, to live a balanced life, you must take care of these three aspects.

  • Your body is your contact with the outside world, the more physical part of yourself.
  • Your soul is your contact with your inner word, the more emotion-driven part of yourself.
  • Finally, your spirit is your contact with something bigger than yourself, the more immaterial part of yourself.

When talking about the five love languages, we are talking about…

The Five Love Languages is a theory developed by Doctor Eric Chapman that outlines how different people have different ways of expressing and experiencing love. They are:

  • Quality time
  • Words of affirmations
  • Acts of service
  • Physical touch
  • Gift-giving

If you don’t know your love language yet, you can find it here!

What should I do every day to take care of myself?

Now that we have things covered, let me tell you how it’s gonna work (I am way too excited for this! haha)!

I am going to share some ideas on how you can find daily self-care ideas that will take care of your body, soul, and spirit according to each of the love languages.

But remember that these are just ideas and inspiration; only you know what makes sense for you and your routine!

So, if nothing resonates with you (but I do hope it will), use it as inspiration to develop your ideas for a daily self-care checklist.

I recommend you pick one for the body, one for the soul, and one for the spirit, according to your love language. Then, create your personalized daily self-care checklist.

This mix will be a great place to start or to get back into the habit of taking care of yourself daily!

Are you ready? Let’s go!

Daily self care checklist ideas based on your Love Language

If your Love Language is Quality Time, here are some ways you can practice self-care:

Body

Allow yourself time to invest in how you move your body. Then, block a chunk of time devoted to moving your body in a way that feels good, where you can focus only on yourself and no one else.

Give yourself the gift of a long warm shower with no hurry. Light some candles (these Chesapeake Candles always hit the spot for me!), have your favorite playlist as background music… and savor every minute of it.

Soul

Give yourself time to sit down with a book, a cup of coffee, or tea. Then, block some time to go to a place where you feel cozy and enjoy reading something that makes you happy and inspired.

Have a time in your day when you can spend time by yourself journaling. It can be part of your morning or evening routine, but make that your special date with yourself.

Spirit

Make the time commitment to start or finish your day doing something sacred to you. It can be a prayer, a devotional, or lighting a candle to your ancestors.

Maybe not daily, but at least weekly. Go to a gathering where you can be with people who share the same faith. Invest that time to connect with your higher power.

If your Love Language is Words of Affirmation, here are some ways you can practice self-care:

Body

Listen to inspirational and motivational videos, podcasts, or recordings as you move your body.

Mentalize words of affirmation as you move your body in a way that feels good.

Soul

Find some inspiring affirmations that resonate with you and say them out loud in front of the mirror.

Start your day by finding an inspirational/motivational quote to keep close throughout the next twenty-four hours. Then, meditate on its meaning as you go through your day.

Spirit

If you have a sacred book, look for the promises about you and your life they talk about. Then, highlight those and take it in all the lovely things they say about who you are.

Pick an affirmation that resonates with you and spend some time meditating as you repeat that affirmation to yourself (in your mind or out loud), focusing on your breathing. Make it a slow process with no rush. Take the words in.

If your Love Language is Acts of Service, here are some ways you can practice self-care:

Body

Before going to bed, do a quick cleanup around the house. This way, you will start your next day with a physical environment reflecting organization and peace.

Make yourself a dinner/lunch/snack you are excited about eating! Nourish your body to make you feel happy and taken care of.

Soul

Keep a physical tab of errands and to-dos for yourself. Every time you remember something, instead of saving it in the back of your mind and stressing about always forgetting about it… please write it down!

Daily or weekly, look at your tab and pick at least one errand/to-do you can do for yourself to ease the mental load.

Spirit

Ask yourself: “How can I make someone’s day better today?” Then put that into action!

Look for ways to serve your community, whether it’s daily, weekly, or monthly. For example, you could donate old clothes, volunteer, or just take some food to someone you know is in need.

If your Love Language is Physical Touch, here are some ways you can practice self-care:

Body

Learn self-massage! Many Youtube videos for beginners can help you get started.

Invest in your skincare routine and use it as a moment to relax, feel your skin, and unwind.

Soul

Have a hobby that makes you feel aligned with yourself and uses your hands or whole body! Some ideas are pottery, painting, and dancing.

Have a hot bath with salts and use it as a time to reflect on your day and release everything that doesn’t serve you anymore.

Spirit

Have you ever heard about EFT Tapping? It’s a great way to balance your energy as you let go of anxiety.

Spend time outside with nature. Feel the sun on your skin and the wind in your hair and remind yourself how miraculous it is to be alive.

If your Love Language is Gift-Giving, here are some ways you can practice self-care:

Body

Buy yourself workout classes you are excited about doing.

At least once a month, book a treat yourself moments like a massage or manicure.

Soul

Once a month, treat yourself to a new book and make it part of your daily routine to enjoy the present you gave yourself.

Enroll in a class or online course that will help you get to know yourself better or develop the skills necessary to make your dreams come true.

Spirit

Give to organizations working for causes close to your heart, and make the world a better place.

Find someone special in your life and give them a small gift “just because” as a reminder of how much they are loved.

I can’t wait to see how you apply these in your life!

It’s important to understand that love language can change according to your season; the same goes for your self-care needs!

So allow yourself to adapt and grow as you go!

Vc me viciou em Jane a virgem….rs

Sei que muitas coisas mudaram, mas adoro lê seus post…chegar nesse blogue hoje foi coisa de Deus.
