Sharing is Caring ♡

Last Updated on April 12, 2024 by Isabelle Dias

If you are looking for the best evening routine for women, maybe you have already watched all the YouTube videos and tried all the tips… but nothing seems to fully resonate with you when trying to create a night routine that is doable and that you can actually stick to. I’ve been there, done that my friend.

But can I tell you a secret? You don’t need much to create a night routine list that is absolutely perfect for your lifestyle and goals. Actually, we can condense the best practices for a perfect night routine for women in just four effortless steps. In this post, I am going to show you exactly how you can create a night routine tailored for you that will promote beauty inside and out—all of this while keeping things as simple as possible.

Make sure to pin this for later, so you can always come back for a refresh.

Here's my favorite night routine list for the best evening routine for women.

What should be my night routine?

Before we start, I need to share with you my approach to routines. It doesn’t matter if it is a morning routine, a self-care routine, or a night routine.

For a routine to create a lasting impact and results, you need to work on the three parts of yourself: body, soul, and spirit.

I already dove deep in way more details about this approach, and if you want to understand it better, I suggest you read this post here.

Overall, we can understand the BSS (body, soul, spirit – I love acronyms) strategy as simple as:

The body: the outside, your contact with the world, your senses, touch, movement.

The soul: your mind, feelings, emotions, and thoughts.

The spirit: your contact with the divine, something bigger than yourself.

When you include those three aspects of yourself in your night routine, you will cultivate glowing skin and inner beauty that flows all around.

Having an integrated approach (aka BSS) to my routines was life-changing and gave me results I would’ve never dreamed about! Since I know how powerful this technique can be, I wanted to be the first thing I shared with you.

How to develop a night routine

Step One: The Unwind Part

I call this first step “The Unwind Part.” Here, we will focus on disconnecting from the outside world and the stresses of the day. You will direct your energy to recharge.

Start by checking social media one last time and then putting it away. This is important because you want to curate well the inputs you are getting before bed.

Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh studied the impact of social media on our sleep. And the findings are not very good…

According to the results, scrolling through your feed during the last 30 minutes before bed is the most significant indicator of a bad night’s sleep.

Among the many reasons for this to happen, the main one is that the blue light emitted from screens holds back the hormone that controls our sleep cycle. And the increase of anxiety associated with social media, making it harder to shut off… Are you convinced yet?

So no likes, shares, or pins for (at least) the last 30 minutes before bed, ok?

Use this time to play the type of music that will help you relax and make it your background vibe for the night. It can be instrumental, acoustic, sounds of nature…

Chill pop-folk songs work better for me. To check out my bedtime playlist, just click here.

Night routine for working women

To close the first step, prepare your environment for the next day. This means making things easier for your future self.

Choose your work outfit and leave it folded next to the bed. Leave the ingredients for your morning coffee at the kitchen counter. Set your alarms.

Anything that will make your life more peaceful the next morning (and if you need help with that, I already wrote a full post on morning routines. Click here to check out!).

Remember: You want to nourish your body, soul, and spirit to renew themselves for the next day.

Simple night skin care routine steps

Step Two: The Beauty Part

Now you are ready for step two, which I call “The Beauty Part.” Here, we are going to take care of your body.

I have so many favorite products for a beauty night routine! To be honest, it was kinda hard to choose only a few. But I am doing my best to keep things simple!

Depending on your goals for your skin and self-care, a night beauty routine can look different. That’s why I am going to be a little more generalist here, with a foolproof method.

It works wonders whether you are a beginner or an experienced skincare queen. Feel free to adapt to your needs!

In the spirit of keeping things simple, let’s start washing your face and getting rid of all the impurities of that day. The Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit is one of my favorites for this!

It washes the oil and impurities away without making my skin feel like a dry sponge. It’s also fully packed with good stuff, like Vitamin C, natural grapefruit extract, and Salicylic Acid. And have you checked the price? It’s definitely the best of both worlds!

If your skin is not Acne-prone and you are looking for a more gentle facial cleanser, you can’t go wrong with the CeraVe Hydrating Cream-to-Foam. It cleans and removes makeup, is packed with Hyaluronic Acid, and is Non-Comedogenic. We love a multitasking moment!

Night routine skincare

After that, let’s apply a toner to remove any nasty traces of oil and makeup that are still around. This will also help to close your pores and get your skin ready for the moisturizer.

I have debated on my favorite toner for quite a while, and I have to admit that I haven’t reached a conclusion yet! The closest I got to a favorite was the Rose Water Spray ones, Mario Badescu being at the top of the list for me.

Listen, if sometimes you get lazy with your skincare routine (I have been guilty many times), this can be one of the best investments you could make. You just spray all over your beautiful little face, and it’s done!

One of the things I am most obsessed with Rose Water spray toners is its natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. From excess oil to eczema and dermatitis… It will help the regeneration of skin tissue, working wonders while you sleep.

To finish our self-care time, let’s moisturize this babe face of yours! Hands down, the Vichy Mineral 89 was one of the moisturizers that gave me the most results

My dermatologist first prescribed this to me after a procedure, and I have been hooked ever since!

For me, Mineral 89’s beauty is the Hyaluronic Acid. It plumps and straightens your skin while also hydrating and transforming you into a glowing skin goddess! Seriously, what not to love?

After the clean + tone + hydrate finishes, you have two options: go straight to step number three or spend a little extra time moisturizing your body with something extra hydrating.

What should I apply on my body at night?

This additional step will leave you with that warm, happy feeling as you change into your sleeping clothes.

I already declared my love for The Grown Alchemist products, so yes, I am going to brag about their body cream again. It works! And it smells incredible!

If you can take only one recommendation of this whole post, I urge you to pay close attention to the Mandarin and Rosemary Leaf body cream.

The mix of shea butter and jojoba oil noticeably improves skin hydration. When paired with grapeseed and rosehip oils, we have this magical antioxidant elixir that helps condition and soothe the appearance of dry skin. To top it off, it also has the perfect scent to slow you down for bedtime.

This one is always on my selection when I do any home spa with a zen vibe. It was one of my best investments! You can get it here, and thank me later.

Step Three: The Soulful Part

Look at you! You’re all relaxed, with glowing skin, and ready for step three! I call this one “The Soulful Part.” So, yes, we are going to be working on the soul over here.

There are many different things we could do during this moment in your night routine. However, after some research, I realized it would be better to focus on reflecting on the day and your growth. Finishing with good food for thought.

To start, go tuck yourself up in bed, grab a pen, and your favorite journal.

Now, we are going to work on two different lists. The first one is called “What went well today,” and it is what it looks like a list of everything that went well on that day!

I encourage you to write at least three things.

It can be something small as the Starbucks barista writing your name right and choosing an ah-mazing salad for lunch. Or, something big like you delivering an excellent presentation at work, and finally running for 15 minutes straight without dying.

Take this time to reflect and dwell on the good feelings those moments bring and how you can replicate them in the future.

Evening routine journal

After that, you will start the second list: “I am proud of myself because…” and yes, that is also what it looks like. I am not very creative about naming lists today.

Write at least three things that made you proud of yourself.

Waking up on time, doing this night routine, not answering that toxic friend’s message? You are a badass, and this is the time to recognize that!

Feel the awesomeness of being you. Allow yourself to be proud of your choices and the path you are creating.

All of those positive inputs will give your subconscious a lot of good juice to work with. As you continue to do this, new beliefs (the good kind) about your worth, capacity, and self-esteem will be created during your sleep.

If you want to geek out about how the subconscious can help you create a life you love, you should check out this post over here.

Women’s night time routine

The third step could end here, and it would already give you excellent results. But if you want to add a little extra cherry on top, please bear with me…

The best way to finish our soulful part is with at least 5 minutes of reading something that will add to your life. You can do more, but five is a great place to start.

Perhaps reading a romance or a sci-fi novel is the right fit for you. If so, go all in!

Maybe you feel more like a self-development book is the right choice for the moment. If so, I got you! I wrote a post jammed with the ultimate top seven self-development books for women.

I am usually pretty protective of my favorite books, but I want you to experience the fantastic feeling of creating a life you are completely in love with! Those books were definitely an essential part of the process for me. If you want to find your next new book, click here to read the full post.

Step Four: The Shutting Off Part

Here we are, the last step! I call the fourth step “The Shutting Off Part.”

Probably, by now, you should be pretty sleepy and ready to close your cute little eyes. So this one is optional.

But, if you are not, here is what we are going to do: meditate.

Besides, you can also do this even if you are already sleepy! Meditation is always a good idea.

My favorite way to meditate (mainly to fall asleep) is by using Headspace. It’s one of the most complete meditation apps I’ve ever used. The only down part is, to have access to sleep meditations, you will need the PRO version.

It’s an affordable and incredible investment, so if you go for it… GO! My favorite sleep meditation from them is Rainday Antiques, and I was never able to make it all the way to the end awake. Seriously… magical!

But if this investment is not a priority for you right now, and you still want to get all the benefits of a meditation practice before sleep, go to Youtube!

There are tons of sleeping meditations, some of them guided, others just with rain sounds… Have fun! And sleep like a baby. You deserved it!

That’s so interesting! Keep doing you and what’s working!
I feel I go through seasons. Some seasons, I am more of a morning person and love to wake up at 5 am and go to bed early. But, on the other hand, I become a night owl in other seasons, super productive at night and sleeping in in the morning.

  • Amanda

I am so glad that I found your website. After reading just a few of your articles, I am going to start a night routine tonight. I am a night owl and have a hard time getting up in the mornings. I feel starting a night routine will help with waking in the morning.

  • Johnna Kirk

I’m a night owl and while I love the peace and quiet of this time it does make it hard to wake up ready for a productive day. Thanks for sharing this great post 😊
